HORSE-RIDING AT Voltrona
We organise excursions of varying difficulty and length for experts and beginners alike. Starting from the farm, we explore the typical Tuscan countryside which alternates vineyards with olive groves and woodland. Riding up a cypress tree-lined picture-postcard avenue, we reach a hilltop that offers us an exceptional view over San Gimignano and the Voltrona Farm.
Fattoria Voltrona began organizing weekly spring and autumn packages in 2006 which have become very successful and popular over the years. If you are unable to stay for a whole week, we offer weekend packages during the summer months or single excursions.
We hope that you, like many other people before you, will come and experience the unique combination of Icelandic horses, Wine-growing and Italian culture!
The riders will ride out in small groups accompained by a guide. The groups contain a maximum of 6-8 people, a consciously chioce since it's important for us to dedicate sufficient time to each rider and to provide a personal service.
OUR HORSES COME FROM ICELAND…they have “5 gears”!
The Icelandic horse is intelligent, versatile, gentle and vigorous, it comes in many different colours and is appreciated for being a true friend. Our horses are safe and easy-going tölters with the right spirit and willingness, as perfect tour horses should be.
Tourism on horseback is a consolidated tradition for Icelandic horses, they are much appreciated for their suitability for beginners and children as well as the great satisfaction they can give to the more experienced riders.
It’s docile character, amiable temperament and extremely comfortable gait tölt, unique in the world of horses, have won it hundred of thousands of fans all over the world. As well as walking, trotting and cantering, the Icelandic horse has two other gaits: tölt and flying pace. The tölt is an extremely smooth and rapid four-beat gait featuring elegant and linear movements that prevent riders from losing their balance and give them a virtually bounce-free ride, unlike the trot. In short, it's a “5 gear horse”.
There are about 350 Icelandic horses in Italy, at least 90% of which are in South Tyrol. The Icelandic horse has been highly successful in many north European countries, especially Sweden, Denmark and Germany, but also all over the United States, from Florida to California.
